Urban Animation has been appointed by a local landowner to undertake a major master planning exercise at Lochinver, Sutherland, in conjunction with CKD Galbraith.
Lochinver is an attractive fishing village on Scotland’s remote north western coast, set amongst the iconic landscape of Assynt and Inverpolly. The whole of the surrounding landscape is included within the Assynt-Coigach National Scenic Area.
The village hugs the shoreline at the confluence of Loch Inver with the Rivers Inver and Culag. The surrounding land is steep and rocky, constraining the natural expansion of the village. Recent development at the north has not always achieved a successful relationship between buildings and landscape.
This challenging project will seek to identify locations for new housing and other uses required to accommodate the future growth of Lochinver. It will also provide layout and design guidance to ensure that new development enhances the unique character of the village.
Building strong relationships with local agencies, businesses and people will be essential. The whole engagement process is just beginning and it will continue throughout the project and into the delivery period. It will include community events in 2011, where local people will have an opportunity to help shape the Master Plan for Lochinver.
